Each ASIST workshop adheres to the LivingWorks international standard, offering a comprehensive and engaging experience. Here’s what you can expect at your ASIST training:
The workshop spans two consecutive days, totaling 15 hours of in-depth learning.
Grounded in principles of adult learning, ASIST values your experiences and encourages active participation and sharing throughout the training.
Every ASIST workshop is facilitated by at least two trained ASIST trainers for the full two days. For groups exceeding 30 participants, three trainers are present, while workshops with more than 45 participants are split into separate sessions to ensure a focused and supportive environment.
Participants will watch two award-winning videos: Cause of Death?, which serves as a starting point for exploring attitudes toward suicide, and It Begins with You, showcasing the suicide intervention process.
The workshop features a mix of full-group activities and smaller workgroup sessions, offering a balance of safety and challenge. Participants are not required to disclose personal experiences to the entire group.
Local community resources and their availability are discussed during the workshop to ensure participants are well-informed.
Each participant receives a 20-page workbook, a wallet card, stickers, and a certificate upon completion of the training.
ASIST equips you with vital skills for intervening in suicide situations, fostering a supportive and impactful environment for all participants.

This program equips students or trainees with the tools needed to effectively interact and communicate with people from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds. It emphasizes building respect and fostering cultural diversity within society (Banks, 2006). Through this teaching, learners gain the opportunity to explore and understand their own systems of values, beliefs, and practices, while recognizing and respecting that others may differ in these areas. By appreciating that there is no definitive right or wrong and that it is okay to disagree, learners deepen their self-awareness and enhance their ability to communicate and connect meaningfully with others, thereby strengthening their interpersonal communication skills (Angus, 2011).

We provide a comprehensive approach to recovery, integrating both community-based and in-house resources to support members on their journey. Through programs like SMART Recovery and Narcotics Anonymous, members have access to weekly meetings held at the Center and in the community, providing a consistent and supportive environment for growth. Hope Lives collaborates closely with each member’s Clinical and Integrated Care Teams to identify substance use challenges, coordinate services, and advocate for the appropriate level of care. This holistic approach ensures that members receive tailored support and resources for sustained recovery and well-being.
