The beautiful mural decorating the front of the Hope Lives-Vive la Esperanza building was created by Jesse Yazzie, a talented Native American artist from Phoenix whose journey from homelessness and drug addiction to a celebrated muralist symbolizes transformation and resilience, and encapsulates the spirit of the individuals served by Hope Lives. As a member of the Navajo Nation, Jesse’s artistic journey has been shaped by the rich traditions and stories passed down through generations. Featuring vibrant colors and the inclusion of the "Arizona flower," the mural embodies the theme of growth and recovery.
"This mural represents the personal and collective journeys of transformation that are possible when individuals receive the support they need," said Debra A. Kurkoski, Chief Executive Officer of Hope Lives - Vive La Esperanza. "We are proud to integrate such a powerful piece of art that reflects our mission and vision."
The mural is a symbol of Hope Lives’ ongoing efforts to provide culturally relevant services to adults at risk for or managing serious mental health challenges, and those re-entering the community post-incarceration. Their programs focus on life skills, employment, psycho-education, substance use recovery, and more, supporting not only individuals but also enriching the broader community.
